Cinemating “Going Dutch”

War is not pretty, but it can be dramatic. Take World War II in Holland. Soldier of Orange is a top story of Dutch college students just prior to war who get caught up in the storm. They take seperate paths–cowards, collaborators, heroes, and hapless victims, a great starter movie, as it covers pre-war to post-war. Operation Amsterdam takes place as Holland is invaded and touches on loyalties and lofty ideals. A Bridge Too Far is a big budget opus about the Allied liberation of Holland. Once again the suffering affects the Dutch citizens. Wrapping up the conflict is The Black Book about conflicted relations in the final days of Nazi rule.
