Dangerous Crosswinds

Movie of the Month No Comments

scan0039New Hampshire has no claim to the glamour of Hollywood. Except for Adam Sandler and Peter Bonerz, NH has not much film fame. The year 2005 brought a new sheet of fame for NH.  I speak of the movie Dangerous Crosswinds  which was wholly New England born and raised.  This film has none of the big picture song and dance.  But the storyline is solid; the cinematography clear and sharp; and there are local sites (and sights) galore.  Another big plus is the on and off camera presence of a friend (Jeff Rapsis) from junior high school (that is circa 1977) who has done quite well in the arts and media. Give it a watch and support Granitewood.

OTH “Deer Woman”

scan0056Half-woman, half-deer, and all weird. The sublime Brian Benben plays the usual browbeaten cop on the trail of murder, mayhem, and a self-mocking storyline.  Deer Woman concocts Native American lore with some entertaining police work reminiscent of the sturdy slapstick of Bride of the Monster. This flick should be shown free at Mohegan Sun. And that is a rare endorsement if ever there was one. (Once you see the movie and visit Mohegan Sun you’ll see the connection).
